L.A.'s City Council and the Pot Question

Voters legalized medical marijuana in 1996, but without local regulation, pot clubs grew like weeds -- especially in major cities like Los Angeles. This week, L.A.'s City Council approved a measure that would shut down most of the hundreds of pot shops in the city and place tough restrictions on those left. Many politicians voting on the issue grew up during an era when pot smoking was common, although some deny taking part, as we found out when we surveyed members of the L.A. Will Truckers Clean Up Their Act?

If you live near L.A., Long Beach or Oakland -- the state's three biggest ports -- you can expect the air you breathe to get cleaner. That's because laws banning the oldest and most polluting diesel trucks from entering California ports take effect this month and next.
