Tensions are high at school districts throughout the state as administrators grapple with running schools on squeezed budgets. One district in Orange County is already on strike, and Oakland teachers are threatening a walkout. Michael Kirtz, a professor of education at Stanford, warns more strikes might be on the horizon.

Now the combination of global positioning systems and social networks allows people to find the next bus -- and find out if their friends are on it. But the application is raising privacy concerns.
