On Wednesday, Democrats in Sacramento were in a celebratory mood after passing an on-time budget for just the second time in 25 years. But the euphoria didn't last long as Governor Jerry Brown vetoed the bill, marking the first time a California governor has rejected a budget in over a century. We're coming to the end of cherry season in California. It's brief, even in the best years and this year, picking was hampered by late rains, which also spoiled some fruit. Farmers are used to good years and bad, but then there's the C.J. Olson family, who have been growing cherries in what's now Silicon Valley for more than a hundred years.
