Prison Hunger Strike Ends

California prison inmates are eating now, winding down a hunger strike that lasted three weeks. The strike began at Pelican Bay Prison as a protest about conditions in the Security Housing Unit there. It soon spread to thousands of inmates at more than a dozen prisons.

The Los Angeles county suburb of Lancaster has some serious problems, including high rates of unemployment and home foreclosure, and more than its share of violent crime.
