Gov. to Propose Education Funding Revamp

Next week, Governor Jerry Brown is expected to propose a dramatic overhaul in the way California spends money on education. A similar proposal fell flat last year -- but education officials with the Brown administration have been tweaking it, and the plan may have more political support this time around. Anthony York of the Los Angeles Times got a sneak peek, and joins us to talk about the details.

In Oakland, School Officials Tackle Rising Suspensions

A number of new education laws in California tackle a particularly alarming issue: the state's schools now issue more suspensions to students than diplomas, especially to African-American students. Nowhere is that more apparent than in the Oakland Unified School District. But now, district officials are pinning their hopes on a new approach to student discipline, called "Restorative Justice."Reporter: Ana Tintocalis
