Monday marks the 10th anniversary of the Los Angeles riots sparked by the acquittal of four white police officers charged with beating African American motorist Rodney King. The three-day rampage following the verdicts left 55 people dead and two thousand injured. The economic impact was severe - Eleven hundred buildings were damaged or destroyed. Tens of thousands of businesses suffered losses or closed down completely. In all, the riots caused an estimated one billion dollars in damage.
