Debate begins Monday at the state Capitol. Many Democrats say they are willing to fight some of the proposed cuts. Monday is the 50th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision, which desegregated schools nationwide. But activists and scholars say that case owes a lot to an earlier, lesser-known lawsuit that began in Southern California. It was known as Mendez v. Throughout the state, thousands of adult amateurs are passing the puck in rinks from San Diego to the Oregon Border.
