There was little surprise Thursday when the California Supreme Court ruled that San Francisco officials overstepped their authority in giving marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples. The ruling voided the marriages of nearly 4000 couples. Now, opponents and advocates of same sex marriage are already looking ahead to the next step in this cultural and legal battle.
