Getty Museum Gets Tangled Up with the Law

A senior curator at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles is awaiting trial in Italy, where she's charged with conspiring to import illegally acquired antiquities. And the L.A. Times reported this week that California's attorney general is investigating the financial practices of the J. Paul Getty Trust, which oversees the museum. The New De Young Museum

The new de Young Museum, officially opens in San Francisco in October, but the building's architecture is already generating lots of debate, in part because it's so different from the Spanish-Colonial style of the old de Young. California's Poet Laureate

Berkeley writer Al Young was born in Mississippi some 65 years ago, but he spent most of his adult life in California. He has taught writing at USC, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz. Young says all poetry is political. That's one reason he was surprised when Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger chose him as California's new poet laureate.
