This weekend, country music icon Buck Owens will be laid to rest in Bakersfield. Owens died last Saturday at the age of 76. A native of Texas, he settled in Bakersfield, forging a sound that defied the country music establishment. Even at the peak of his success, Owens remained in Bakersfield. He went on to own a string of local radio stations and open a club called the Crystal Palace, where he performed every weekend. In 1999, reporter Steven Cuevas talked with Buck Owens at the Crystal Palace.
