Pruning is one of the last wine industry tasks that still requires a human touch. Farmworkers, mostly migrants from Mexico, do this back-breaking and seldom-recognized work, but it's vital to ensuring the quality of each vintage. At the recent sixth annual Napa County Pruning Contest, they got a chance to step in to the spotlight and show off their art, skill and speed at pruning some of the most famous vines in the world.
