A Report Card for L.A. Police Chief

New Rules on Toxics Reporting

For the past two decades, U.S. factories that put toxic chemicals into the air and water had to report them, in detail, to the federal goverment and the public. The Bush administration recently lowered those requirements by rewriting Environmental Protection Agency rules. That means that, in California alone, as much as 600,000 pounds of toxic cemicals could go underreported this year.Reporter: David Gorn

Abalone Hunting Claims Fifth Life This Year

California's red abalones are a culinary delicacy, and people come from far and wide to hunt for them along the state's rocky shores. But it's a dangerous sport, and abalone season claims an average of three lives every year. This year, however, five abalone hunters have drowned already. The fifth, a scuba diver, died last week.
