Firefighters are getting the upper hand on a blaze on Catalina Island off the coast of Los Angeles. It has already burned more than 4,000 acres and forced 3800 residents to evacuate. Remote Stretch of Santa Barbara Coast Sold to Developer

For decades, Point Conception in Santa Barbara County has been a remote, isolated place favored by surfers, cowboys and artists. It includes Bixby Ranch, a 25,000 acre cattle ranching operation. Earlier this year the ranch was sold to a Los Angeles developer for $140 million. That raises questions about what comes next for this piece of paradise. Methamphetamine and Identity Theft

Riverside County is a hotbed of activity in the war on methamphetamines. Law enforcement there used to focus on meth labs. But now that it's harder to buy ingredients like pseudoephedrine, "superlabs" in Mexico are flooding the street with meth that's even cheaper and stronger than the American-made versions.
