Uncounted Votes

A week and a half after the presidential primary, about 800,000 votes are still being counted. We begin in Los Angeles where Los Angeles Bureau Chief Rob Schmitz reports that election officials are figuring out how to count some 50,000 ballots filled out by decline-to-state or independent voters. Hollywood writers returned to work this week after 100 days on the picket lines. Members of the Writers Guild of America voted overwhelmingly to end their walkout We talked with show scribes Mark Stegman and Karine Rosenthal about life back at work.

Elephant Seal Takeover

At this time of year, one beach in Central California is overrun by thousands of huge elephant seals. These huge animals used to be an endangered species, but not anymore. Now there are so many crowding the beaches near San Simeon that they're starting to venture toward the nearby highway. And that can't be good for man or beast. Reporter: David Gorn

DJ Don Cheto

L.A.'s top Spanish-language disk jockeys carry lots of influence. For instance, they mobilized many of the people who took part in recent immigrant rights marches. For years, the nationally syndicated El Piolin and El Cucuy have ruled the roost. Now a third disc jockey, who goes by the name Don Cheto, has moved into the number two spot.
