All hands are on deck in Hollywood this weekend, where the curtain goes up on the Academy Awards ceremony Sunday night. It's George Clooney versus Daniel Day Lewis -- and Prada versus Gucci as marquee celebrities compete with plunging necklines on the red carpet outside the Kodak Theatre. Reporter: Mary McNamara

Marine Infantry Training

Two Marines from Camp Pendleton will be tried next month for their roles in the killing of 24 Iraqi civilians, including women and children. The incident made one thing clear -- Marines need more training to make better life and death decisions in chaotic situations. Now, sophisticated special effects are being used at Camp Pendleton to prepare Marines for life on the streets of Baghdad. Reporter: Alison St. John

SWAT Officer Remembered

Even the best training isn't always enough to keep you out of harm's way. The death of Los Angeles police officer Randy Simmons earlier this month brought that home. Simmons was the first member of the department's elite SWAT unit to be killed in the line of duty. A 20-year veteran of the SWAT team, Simmons was considered one of the very best. He also spent time on the streets working as a minister, mentoring kids in some of the toughest housing projects in the city. Reporter: Frank Stoltze

Native American Opera

An opera singer and a composer from Fresno State have teamed up on an unusual new work premiering this weekend. They're calling it an "ethno-historical cantata." The work is based on the oral history of a Native American woman from California who was one of the last members of her tribe to speak her people's language. Reporter: Sasha Khokha
