Contaminated Drinking Water
What if you lived in a small town, and your monthly water bill was higher than what people in Los Angeles or San Francisco pay -- and you couldn't even drink the water? That's the case for some Central Valley residents whose water is tainted with nitrates. The most common contaminant in California drinking water, nitrates are related to fertilizer and waste. The biggest problem is in Tulare County, at the heart of the state's farming and dairy belt.
