It's been a week of protests and remembrances as the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War ignited passion on all sides of the issue. Support for the war in California is often strong around military bases, where soldiers and their families are part of the community fabric. The small Mojave Desert town of Twentynine Palms is home to the nation's biggest Marine Corps base. Residents there will hold a peace vigil next week. A few years ago, that would've been unthinkable in a town that reveres its Marines. But as the war goes on, a grassroots peace movement is gradually gaining acceptance and adding new recruits.
