McCain in Santa Barbara
Republican presidential candidate John McCain swung through California this week to collect campaign cash and talk about his energy policy. The Arizona senator spoke at Santa Barbara's natural history museum Tuesday where he ran into stiff criticism of his support for lifting a decades old federal moratorium on offshore oil drilling.

Health Insurance Rescissions
State lawmakers are voting this week on a package of bills that would make it harder for health insurance companies to cancel coverage for individual policyholders. Insurers are facing intense scrutiny for rescinding policies after discovering even minor discrepancies in a member's health application. But consumer groups and state regulators say even with the proposed new laws in place, those who want to buy individual insurance policies will still be powerless.
