Union Membership Bill
The United Farmworkers Union is close to winning a major victory in Sacramento with legislation that would make it easier for farmworkers to join a union. The bill passed the Senate yesterday but still faces tough opposition from growers.

Microfinancing During Economic Downturn
With the credit crisis drying up sources of capital, some small businesses in California are looking to a source of funds that's become common in many Third World countries. Microfinancing began by lending small amounts of money to people in poverty stricken villages, giving them the chance to become self-sufficient. The practice is now becoming popular with small businesses here at home, but it's not always easy.
