The benefits of breastfeeding for the first six months of life are well known. Breast-fed babies typically require fewer visits to the pediatrician, and moms experience reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancer. But in California, about 41 percent of mothers breastfeed exclusively up to three months -- and just 17 percent are still breastfeeding at six months.
