Even before the California Supreme Court wrapped up oral arguments on Prop. 8, groups on both sides of the gay marriage question were planning their next move. More demonstrations are a sure thing, and the issue could end up on the ballot again no matter how the court rules. The nature of that decision is far from clear. During three hours of oral arguments, justices seemed to struggle with how to reconcile their earlier ruling that gays have a fundamental right to marry with the will of California voters who overturned their decision.
