When Mentally Ill People Encounter the Criminal Justice System

The National Alliance on Mental Illness is holding its annual convention in San Francisco this week. Among the honorees is Judge Stephen Manley of San Jose. He presides over one of the first mental health courts in California, working with offenders who are suffering from a variety of mental illnesses. Leveling the Sales Tax Playing Field

When you buy something like a book or a flat-screen TV from a California retailer, you'll have state sales tax calculated on the transaction. If you buy it from an online company that doesn't have a physical presence in the state, you won't. State lawmakers are trying to change that. Reporter: Dan Brekke
