Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton
resigned yesterday to take a position with a private
security firm. Bratton presided over the LAPD for almost
seven years, reshaping the department and pushing down
crime statistics each year. His departure leaves many
in Los Angeles wondering who will be able to fill his
