Racial Disparity in California's Prisons
African Americans in California are incarcerated at six and a half times the rate of whites. Those are the findings of a new national study by a research and advocacy group called the Sentencing Project. The study found that California's rate of racial disparity in prisons and jails is slightly higher than the national average.

Virgin America Takes Off
A new airline begins selling tickets today. Virgin America will be the first major airline in twenty years to start up in California, with its home base at San Francisco International. When Virgin America starts flying on August 8th, the Burlingame-based operator will run just seven flights a day from San Francisco to New York and San Francisco to Los Angeles. As the program reports, that number will grow.
