California Prison Medical Care
In San Francisco today, a federal judge will consider whether to force California to pay $8 billion for prison medical care. It's the latest twist in a nearly decade-long fight over what quality of medical care the U.S. Constitution guarantees for California inmates -- and what the state is willing to spend.

West Nile in California
Human cases of West Nile virus are surging in parts of California. In L.A. County alone, human infections are up nearly 50 percent over this time last year. The Inland Empire is another hot-spot. Four years after it got a foothold in California, there's still a lot we don't know about how to treat the virus.
