Explore the Status of California's State Parks
Last year California officials announced that the budget crisis would force 70 state parks to close by July 1, 2012, saving approximately $22 million.
But on June 28 of this year, the state released about $10 million to help keep parks open past the deadline as local groups, donors and for-profit organizations signed partnerships with the California Department of Parks and Recreation.
Currently, about 40 parks have been saved, and negotiations to save another 25 are in the works.
Red Markers: Parks in negotiations to remain open or still on the park closure list.
Yellow Markers: Parks saved.
Blue Markers: Parks remaining open.
