Explore the Status of California's State Parks

Last year California officials announced that the budget crisis would force 70 state parks to close by July 1, 2012, saving approximately $22 million.

But on June 28 of this year, the state released about $10 million to help keep parks open past the deadline as local groups, donors and for-profit organizations signed partnerships with the California Department of Parks and Recreation.

Currently, about 40 parks have been saved, and negotiations to save another 25 are in the works.
